This is the first (smaller) LCD set I’ve seen that has a good off-angle view when looking up (first of a new generation of smaller sets with upgraded LCD as found on bigger sets)!
I once got burned by a Toshiba 23HLV87 (off-angle view when looking up was terrible) which I exchanged for a Toshiba 26LV47 (off-angle view is great up/down as well as from the sides). After my experience with the Toshibas, I found that many smaller LCD sets (`bout anything smaller than 26″) that look good from the sides (and some looked good from above) have a terrible off-angle view when looking up.
I’ve wanted to replace my kitchen TV (mounted high) with an LCD, and after a call to Sharp to verify this screen does indeed look good (when looking up), I ordered (the owner manual says the viewing angles are 170 degrees horizontally and VERTICALLY)! This is the first (smaller?) set I’ve seen with specs that specifically state off-angle viewing angles both horizontally AND vertically, so I assume this is the first generation of smaller sets with an updated LCD screen as found on most 26″ and above sets.
I have previous good experience with a well-used Sharp Aquos, so hopefully the quality/performance of this set is just as good.
BTW…if you want to download an owner manual (not listed on Sharp USA site for this model), you can either e-mail Sharp USA customer service and they’ll e-mail you one or you can visit Sharp Canada’s site. Since Amazon doesn’t seem to want to allow me to post an external link, just Google “LC20D42U manual” and the first hit should carry you to a page full of Sharp Canada manuals-they seem to have a much more extensive list of downloadable manuals than Sharp USA.

PROS
First set under 26″ I’ve found that has good off-angle viewing when looking up!
Built-in HDTV tuner: (I have Comcast, and can get about 10 over the air channels through my cable by bypassing the DVR). I have no cable box/DVR in the kitchen, so I should be able to receive channels 1 though 70+ as well as approximately 10 over the air HD channels (based on current experience/HDTVs).
Picture quality: Comparable, if not better, than my Toshiba Regza and old Sharp Aquos.
CONS
No channel labeling!!! (my 26″ Toshiba Regza does!) It’s much nicer to label each channel rather than remembering what station 105.1 etc is!
Base doesn’t swivel (it does tilt)
Sound is a bit on the weak side
Remote not lighted
Remote cannot control other devices!

After living with this TV for a few days, I’m lowering my rating from 4 stars to 3 due to missing features available on my other sets (don’t see any way to change the star rating at Amazon)!
If not for size restrictions, I think I’d just get another Toshiba Regza (26LV47, or maybe the model without the built-in DVD player) instead of this Sharp.
The 1 big thing the Toshiba has going for it is channel labeling! It’s tough to remember channel 105.1 is ????-would be nice to be able to label each channel with station call letters!

Sceptre Naga 23″ 720p LCD HDTV – Black (X23BV) CustomerReview

I’m not usually a fan of off brand TVs, but for the price, this is a fantastic 23″ option. The picture is clear and accurate (enough) at both 720p and 1080i resolutions. The color accuracy is fairly good, but I did have to tweak things a bit to get a picture that wasn’t too saturated. Thankfully the menus are actually very intuitive.

The volume level on this TV is fairly low, so I suggest getting an inexpensive 2.1 speaker system to handle processing your audio.

Connectivity is pretty good and includes: 1 HDMI, 1 VGA (no DVI which would have been nice, but you can use a HDMI to DVI converter) your standared composite connection, and S-video, and a video in. Output includes an SPDIF Out which is awesome for digital sound. Try to find speakers that will take advantage of the SPDIF out if possible. It will dramatically improve the sound quality.

This monitor is HDCP compatible, which means you can use it with a computer to play HD content like Blue Rays. This is great if you plan on using this as a monitor.

One complaint is that the TV is a bit slow to respond to input from the remote. This happens when navigating the menu, or when changing inputs. However, it’s only a minor issue.

This TV is a bargain for the price. The features, display quality, and overall value for the price is exceptional. This is NOT an videophile TV and will not impress the extremely picky. However, if you want a solid TV without spending a fortune, the Sceptre Naga 23″ is a great option.

Sharp LC19DV12U 19-Inch LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player CustomerReview

I really debated this one when I saw it at a big box store, but I am very pleasantly surprised. One of the big pluses is how good the HDTV reception is off of the antenna. I have a large set that can barely receive off air (only some channels in the evening) but this little Sharp gets them all without any problem. I was also worried about the channel delay as it’s very annoying with my big TV. This model is not that bad, better than the big screen, but there is still a pause between channels. I don’t know if it’s any better with any other digital TV. The other thing that’s odd, but I’ve gotten used to it, is that the Sharp mixes analog and digital together as you use the channel changer. My big screen makes you switch into analog or digital mode to view those channels.

I was also worried about the sound quality since I have friends with flat screens that sound terrible, but there is nothing wrong with the sound from the Sharp, it’s not amazing, but it has a good quality and decent volume. The remote is also easy to use, a great relief.

The DVD player so far has handled all my DVD-R home made disk without problem, which was a concern. it has some nifty features such as language and subtitles buttons not on my expensive player. Other than that it seems a normal DVD player with good picture quality.

So far I haven’t found anything to fault accept the screen doesn’t tilt (it’s fixed) and there’s no handle to easily move it around.

I would definitely buy it again.

I may be a little biased, as this is my first HDTV, but the 52 inch Sharp Aquos really works for me. I was a little concerned that the picture would look strange at certain angles, like my Samsung monitor does, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Even at rather extreme angles the Aquos looks just fine, the only real difference is that the colors become weaker and not quite as strong. The sound is decent, certainly not home theater good, but the best I’ve ever heard from a TV. The Aquos has plenty of inputs, both in the back of the TV and on the right hand side. From the TV’s menu, there’s choices of 7 different inputs. Adjusting the picture is easy enough, with the exception of the “backlight” adjustment on the picture, which is confusing simply because I don’t know what it does.

All and all, a great TV, and Amazon has it for the best price I’ve seen.

I wouldn’t listen to anyone who doesn’t like this TV… as it’s perfect in everyway. You don’t need 1080 resolution in a 32 inch TV… so you get the best for less… if your seat is close enough to the TV to use a 32 inch TV. We all grew up in a 24″ TV world… but somehow the size of your TV set is related to your… whatever. I think this size is plenty large, as over a few weeks time… big TV screens don’t seem large anymore… as your eyes get accostomed to whatever you a viewing. I’ve had a very large TV screen… and a month later… it seemed the same as the old 24 incher it replaced. This panasonic has a great picture, great color, great sound, and anyone so fussy to need a 120HZ picture ought to end up losing a pile of dough…. as the 60HZ LCD’s are everybit as good. Just go to any Best Buy and watch the split screen TV where they have 120Hz on one side and 60Hz on the other. They have to run the printed words at 1000 miles per hour to get them blurred on the 60Hz side…. which never happens with ordinary TV programming. I’m very happy with this set and anyone not liking it… is a spoiled brat and must watch 10 hours or more of tv a day… to find an excuse as to why they would need an improved picture… over this. Sony is definitely not any better… and Samsung may have a .001% improved picture…. which could never justify the added cost.
This Panasonic sold for LESS THAN 0.00… on Amazon… with free shipping. If you ever see it again, for under 0 GRAB IT … before they are all gone. Panasonic is a good name and many of us know that Vizio and LG… aren’t in our vocabularies for a good reason. This Sony TV lives up to all of the industry and Amazon reviews. It is very attractive with any decor, easy to set up and can truly be viewed from almost any angle with excellent picture quality. I would say it is ideal for a viewing distance of up to about 12-15 feet. If you are going to view it at more than this distance, I would get a larger one.

I didn’t have any problems with ordering, shipping, etc. The only negative I have to say is that the remote is not very rugged, which is surprising given the high ticket price. Couldn’t they put a few extra dollars and give people a nice remote.

You definitely will not be disappointed with this TV for sporting events, correct rendering of flesh tones and adjusting to brightness within a room. Compared to other HDTVs without all of these useful (sometimes essential) features, it’s not an apples to apples comparison. If you get one of the less expensive types, the color changes when viewed from an angle, the brightness isn’t quite right, etc. Spend the extra money and get something decent, a TV is generally something you will use for a long time.
