SEO – Search Engine Optimization Made Easy

May 23rd, 2010 by fiphetdy

I am sure you have all seen or heard the term SEO and you probably are wondering exactly what it means. Well the actual definition from Wikipedia states the following: Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. You are probably already scratching your head and saying What? Well to be honest, SEO is made up of many different variables that need to be broken down into separate areas to build an effective SEO strategy for your website.

The bottom line is you need to develop a strong SEO strategy to score high in the search engine Google. You are probably wondering why right now but as you start to learn the process it will become crystal clear that scoring high on Google’s search engine is the bench mark for 95% of all SEO strategies. Google provides over 50% of all the search engine traffic. Right know don’t go crazy trying to figure out why just understand that it should be your bench mark for your SEO strategy.

There are two classifications of SEO that you need to concentrate on. They can be classified as follows: ONLINE, and OFFLINE. Online SEO would be the actual construction of your web pages. Don’t get caught up in all the website design tricks that are suppose to score you higher in the search engines, they will only hurt your rating. I have fond out the hard way. I would recommend you design your pages according to Google’s website design guidelines. if you stay within their quality guidelines you will do just fine. One Important NOTE: Do not submit your site to any of the search engines. It has been my experience that is better to let the various search engine crawlers or robots find your site on their own. AND THEY WILL SCAN YOUR SITE IN TIME. You will score higher in the long run. Now Your second strategy should deal with “OFFLINE” SEO is the absolute most important.

OFFLINE SEO consists of The most important SEO strategies to get a higher power ranking on Google and other sites with be from you offline SEO strategies. Your OFFLINE SEO strategy will consist entirely of “Link building” This is often also called “link popularity”. Your ” link popularity will come from three types of links. “Reciprocal links”, “One way links” and “three way links” One very Important Note: Do not solicit links that have no relation to your website theme. For example if you are selling fishing supplies do not request links from other sites that do not relate to your product, for example, “health products”. Also DO NOT PURCHASE FFA SITE links these links will absolutely kill your power raking on Google. All links should be constructed with proper anchor text. Anchor text is the text inside an HTML link which is displayed to the web user. Anchor text is usually underlined. An HTML link looks like this:

Anchor Text

The Importance of Anchor Text Anchor text is weighted very heavily in the current Google algorithm. The net effect of this is that if many people link to a web page using a set of keywords as anchor text, that page will rank very highly for those keywords.

“Reciprocal links” are when you post a link for another website, and they do the same on their site. These links do not have the significance they once did but they are useful. “One way links” are the most powerful of all the links and they increase your power rating on Google the most, not mention generate a lot of traffic from people clicking on them. One way links are when a website has posted you link on there website but you have not posted a link of their website on your domain. Good examples of one way links are articles that you write that have a link at the end of the article going back to your website, that article directories have posted on their site thus , one way back to your website. Three way links are when you have a agreement with three websites to trade links, the trade is not direct. Site 1 would link with site 3 site three would link to site 2 with your link. Site two would link with site three and site three would link to site one with site 2 link.

In conclusion, Always start your SEO strategy developing your “offline” SEO strategy first. Create your webpages according to Google’s website design guidelines, paying close attention to their site quality section. Remember do not submit your site to the search engines once you have your pages created. The search engine robots will find your site in do time. After you have your web pages created develop a strategy that includes the three link types reciprocal, one way and three way. Place a lot of effort and concentration into developing a strategy for one way links first. Follow with 3 reciprocal, then three way links. Everyone has a different strategy but I personally focus on one way links for website oldfishinghole.com. Well GOOD LUCK!

Organic SEO Through Content Distribution

May 22nd, 2010 by fiphetdy

Organic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) seems to be the buzzword these days. What is organic SEO? In its simplest explanation, organic SEO is publicity through content distribution. All your incoming links originate from content you created for your website or blog. And boy, search engines love this kind of linking structure.

Marketing through articles is organic Search Engine Optimisation. Your article and the link in your author’s resource box generate incoming links from other niche websites related to yours.

Good quality original content will generate incoming links and drive targeted web traffic to your website fast. This is the kind of activity search engines love, and would in turn lead to higher web page ranking and increase in web traffic.

Writing Articles

This is an effective way of gaining publicity for yourself and your site. Write about your experiences, expertise, hobbies or passion. As a rule of thumb, keep your articles at about 400 to 700 words in length. The issue is not the length of the article. It is the quality of it. But for a start, it is good to adhere to the rule of thumb.

Tips on effective use of articles

Before you start to write, do a research on keyword phrases related to your topic of interest. There are a few free online webmasters’ tools you could utilize (nichebot.com, wordtracker trial). Normally, the top ranked keyword phrases are highly competitively. A top ranked keyword with little or zero competition is a rare find these days. Go for the middle ranked keyword phrase. After all, your goal is to be found on the first page of SERP for your selected keyword phrase.

Include your keyword phrase in your article title and repeat your keyword phrase at least once or twice in the body of your article. You may also want to use sparingly and strategically a variation of your keyword phrase or terms related to it. You may notice in this article I use SEO and Search Engine Optimization, which are interchangeable terms but to the search engines they are variations. I also use search engines and webmasters which are terms related to SEO.

Using a variation of your keyword phrase and terms related to it makes your article more relevant to your topic. With such an arrangement, chances are you may score well at the search engines for more than one keyword phrase.

Post your articles on your site, blog and article directories. Spreading your content all over the web is a fast way to get website visitors. I submit my articles to EzineArticles.com, goarticles.com and articlealley.com. These article directories work well for me. Their high rankings at the search engines give me good publicity.

Other webmasters related to your niche will pick up your high quality articles and link to your web page through your author’s resource box. This is an organic way of growing incoming links. Major search engines like Google look favorably on organically grown one-way links, and reward you.

Most webmasters archived articles for 1 or 2 years because this is a quick way to increase content and the size of their websites. So you can be assured of incoming links for at least 1 or 2 years.

It would be worth your time and effort to write or to hire someone to write keyword rich articles and distribute them over the web. The results can be astounding at times.

SEO Copywriters – Are They Any Good?

May 21st, 2010 by fiphetdy

The vast majority of search engine optimizers today are, in effect, trying to “trick” the engines for first place on search engine results pages, and that goes directly against what the search engines want.

So, what do the search engines want, and more important, why? Search engines want relevant and high-quality information to show up to anyone using their searching service. However, their customers aren’t really the huge numbers of people that use those services to find websites. Instead, it’s the large advertisers that pay the search engines directly for sponsored listings. Those companies will only pay the sponsored listing fees if the search engines attract lots of people. Search engines only attract lots of people if they regularly provide what those people want. Therefore, search engine administrators are constantly upgrading their algorithms in order to bypass the vast amount of optimized junk out there and get to real, relevant content. Each and every time those algorithms change, search engine optimizers scramble to catch up, and then scramble again to redo all of their web pages.

It doesn’t really matter if a search engine specialist is a “white hat” or a “black hat”, both are, in essence, doomed. Search engines will keep improving their algorithms to the point where they cannot possibly be cracked or substituted for. However, that doesn’t mean that search engine optimization itself is a pointless endeavor. Search engine spiders have to be able to read web pages in addition to humans in order for search engine results pages to even pick them up. It doesn’t do much good for a web page to be high quality and appealing to people if search engine spiders can’t find it for a technical reason.

The ultimate answer, of course, is to get a quality writer who also knows enough about search engine optimization to create a page appealing to both humans and search engine spiders. The basics behind search engine optimization aren’t going to change. Metatags don’t provide the kind of incredible results they used to, but they still do a pretty good job of giving spiders a general idea of what your site’s about. HTML is much more visible to spiders than other sorts of Internet programming. These sorts of technical optimization techniques combined with high quality writing offer websites that will continue to rank highly in search engine results regardless of algorithm changes or increased SEO resistance. Get a SEO copywriter, and quality will always shine through

Search Engine Optimization Strategies 101

May 21st, 2010 by fiphetdy

I have learned over the last ten years of internet experience that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be an elusive and often overcharged service by “SEO experts.” So in this article I will lay out in a simple, step by step fashion how to do search engine optimization that will get your website noticed in the search engine general results. Here are some fundamental search engine optimization strategies to get you started.

Website On Page Search Engine Optimization

Do this for your homepage and your other important pages first and then proceed to off page SEO strategies. The information should be customized to each webpage.

– URL: Use a URL that contains your most important keyword, and your subpage URL addresses should contain that page’s particular keyword phrase.

– Page Title Meta Tag: No more than 100 characters; use your most important keywords ordered in importance; don’t worry about having your company name in the title if the keywords take up all the space.

– Page Description Meta Tag: No more than 250 characters; use all your important keywords in order of importance; describe what you do.

– Keywords Meta Tag: listed in order of importance; less is more- use relevant keywords; keyword phrases are better than single keywords or strung together keywords.

– Header Tags: Use header tags (H1,H2,H3) for your most important keywords.

– Image Alt Tags: Put in keyword descriptions for your website pictures.

– Relevant Content: Provide content based around your keywords that is helpful for your web audience. Your Home page should say briefly what you do and feature your most important keywords (products/services), then use subpages to create more content and information on each keyword subject area.

– Fast Page Loading

– Good Code

– Good, Well Organized Navigation

– Create a SiteMap XML File: Submit to Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.

– Have a Blog: This is a must. Blog times per week. Blog on subjects common to your keywords. Submit to the Blog Directories and Blog Carnivals.

– Create an RSS Feed for your Website and Blog: submit to RSS feed directories

Off Page Search Optimization

These strategies also provide you more web traffic and potential business (double benefit)…

– Submit your Site to the Search Engines: This is getting less important but still do it!

– Home Page and Important Subpage Social Bookmarks: Use social bookmarks to get the search engines to quickly spider / crawl your site, as well as, increase your visibility and create viral marketing. Be sure to submit to Do Follow bookmarks as well.

– Create a Local Business Profile for Google, Yahoo and Bing: use your important keywords and choose / create as many relevant categories as possible.

– Write Articles: Write your articles around your most important keyword subject areas and submit to article and blog directories. Put two Text links to your website in the Author Resource area (link to pages on your site that are about the particular keyword subject you are writing about). In content back links from websites other than yours is one of the best SEO strategies right now.

– Submit Your Blog to the Blog Directories and Blog Carnivals

– Submit Your RSS Feeds to RSS Directories

– Create Social Network Pages and Submit: Create a Squidoo page, Hubpage, Weebly page and Wetpaint page. Use different content for each on different keyword subject areas. Link back to your site. Use no more than 9 back links for Squidoo and no more than 3 for Hubpages- as many as you like for the others. Submit the pages to social bookmarks and submit the pages’ RSS feeds to RSS directories. Also create a LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Biznik profile with links back to your site (you can also use them to generate more business and publish articles).

– Submit your Website to Internet Directories: Gain valuable back links, more traffic and more business. Make sure to submit into relevant categories and have a website description and title that uses your keywords (rotate your titles and descriptions).

– Create and Submit Press Releases: Create a press release around each of your most important keywords and submit them to press release directories over time.

– Post Comments in high PR and Relevant Blogs: Include a link to your website in your intelligent blog comment.

Important: For a brand new site, do this off page SEO over a 6 month period. For an established site, do this over a 3 month period.

If you follow these SEO tips, your site will find its way to the first page of the Search Engine rankings. However, you must give it time! Depending on your website’s current position and SEO quality, as well as, the competitiveness of the keyword, it could take as few as several weeks or several months. Either way, it is worth it!

If this sounds like a lot of work, it is. But if you want to capture the massive earning power of the internet, without having to pay for very expensive Cost Per Clicks or Internet Advertising, then it is necessary.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Internal Links, Keyword Density & Other Techniques

May 20th, 2010 by fiphetdy

SEO is a quite tricky, but helpful art of fully optimizing a Web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines. Online companies and organizations that practice this unique form of Web site optimization can vary; as there are some who have a more specialized approach, while others take a broader and more general approach.

Optimizing a web site for search engines usually may require verifying many unique facets, more so that SEO practitioners consider themselves involved in a much wider field of Web site optimization, as those elements are somehow interrelated to each other.

Why Search Engines Easily Locate An Optimized Web Site

It’s a fact these days, that most search engines continue to constantly work towards fine-tuning their technology to crawl the Worldwide Web more comprehensively and locate and retrieve more relevant results to users. However, as with almost all aspects of technology, there will always be a limit to how search engines can operate.

Whereas the right moves can attract you hundreds, or even thousands of visitors, along with wider attention, while the wrong moves can hide or bury your site deep in the search results where visibility is minimal. In addition to making content available to search engines, SEO can also help boost rankings so that content that has been found will be placed where searchers will be able to easily see it. The online environment is becoming increasingly competitive, and those firms who perform SEO will have a more distinct advantage in getting targeted traffic and buying customers.

Creating Better Incoming Links

As most SEO industry veterans would say it, a link is a link is a link. However, without the simplest form, your Web sit will not fare well in most search engines. It’s advisable that the more links you have, the better that chances you’ll get of being crawled by the search engine spiders.

It is also vital to ensure that you have the proper anchor text for your incoming links. According to experts, perhaps the best method of gaining good-quality links from other Web sites, is to link to those sites, and let them be aware that your site is there and hope for a reciprocal link from them.

Proper Keyword Density Matters

Analyzing the right keyword density for your Web site’s articles is truly helpful in making your Web site become more efficient, and visible as well. While you do not wish to go overboard and use the keyword every 5th word, ensuring that it comes up quite often will help you rank much higher in most search engines. It’s advised that you should place your keywords not more then 5% of the total per page, as putting more than that would amount to spamming.

Having The Right Web site Titles Helps

In ensuring that you attain the proper Web site titles for your pages is crucial, as the keywords you place in your title are helpful in ensuring that your topic is understood by search engines like Google for instance. One of the important aspects for ranking, is if the title is on-topic with the search results. Using appropriate, good titles and topics on your Web site helps to generate more online traffic than in attaining a higher placement on the listing.

SEO Services – Reach Top Position in Google

May 20th, 2010 by fiphetdy

Search engine optimization (SEO) is important for every internet marketer. Properly designed pages rank higher and bring more traffic. Search engine optimizations can be divided into on-page and off-page activities. Both need some understanding of what is important and how search engines see our websites. Not everybody is willing to go into details and do strange things to achieve higher rankings. There are many companies that offer SEO services. And sometimes their offers sound like a universal solution for internet marketing. It is not uncommon to find offers like “With our service you will reach #1 position in Google”. How do they do it? Is there really a method to get on the top of search results page for any keyword?

The answer is very simple. Nobody can guarantee any position, in particular the first position. There are many reasons for this. The algorithm used to sort pages for particular keyword is complex and not known to the public. There are many factors that can contribute to high or low ranking. Before you can even think of top positions you should select keywords that have low competition. There are some search phrases that have huge competition. It is simply not possible to reach first few pages of search results for those keywords. The best way to have possibility to reach top positions is to choose right keywords. But this is not enough. You should have unique quality content, some header tags to mark important titles, and other on-page elements optimized for target keyword. The second part of optimization are links that point to your page. More links mean that your page is more important and this will be reflected in search results. The anchor text (the text under the link) is also important and it should match the main keyword of the page.

But even if you take care of all possible strategies for page optimization you can not guarantee top positions. It is not possible to predict ranking of your page or other competing pages. And what is more important, the claim about guaranteed #1 position is ridiculous. Whoever claims that he can put any page on the first position of search results doesn’t know anything about search engines or is deliberately trying to mislead customers. Even if somebody manages to optimize one page for a particular keyword and reaches #1 position, this situation will not be permanent. And what would he do when he will get two independent requests for the same keyword? Will he put both pages (ranking for the same keyword) on the highest position in search results? Google currently supports only one page per position.

The author does all the optimizations for his web projects by himself. Simply because for some websites the content is more important than top positions. One of such projects is the AVR microcontrollers website which is dedicated to embedded systems, Atmel AVR microcontrollers, AVR projects and hobby electronics. All the pages are using header tags and other on-page elements considered to be important for SEO.

Top positions in search engines are important for the website owner, but for visitors only content counts. Users will naturally link to pages with good quality content. And before you hire anybody for SEO services make a quick analysis of what is actually possible. Permanent top position in Google is not possible.

DIY Search Engine Optimization

May 19th, 2010 by fiphetdy

Just because you build a beautiful web page doesn’t mean they will come, doesn’t mean you will rank well in Google. You have to help search engines know what to rank your web page for to help people find your web page that will appreciate what you have to offer. This is called ‘Search Engine Optimization, or ‘SEO‘.

Basic Search engine optimization isn’t complicated, it’s a matter of researching and knowing what keywords and phrases you want to rank for, placing and formatting those words and phrases properly in html. Everything else is related to generating relevant content for your site and generating back links. This article touches on key words and phrases but covers on page SEO in depth.

When going for a keyword or phrase on Google, or on AdWords, the more general and broad the keyword or phrase, the tougher it is to rank well organically or afford to advertise for. The more specific and unique the key word or phrase, the easier it is to rank or pay for.

A little business insight: when a prospect is looking to buy, say a skateboard, they will type in ’skateboards’ into Google to get more information. But a buyer is unlikely to buy at the site he’s getting information from. When the skateboard customer has more information, their search is going to be more specific, perhaps “Buddha Zen Buddy”, the name of a specific board from a long board company with close to regular skateboard proportions but a smoother ride thanks to broad trucks and fat wheels.

The advertiser that ranks best for “Buddha Zen Buddy” will sell more of those skateboards than the business selling the same board, but competing for the more expensive and ‘coveted’ keyword “skateboard”.

People generally know what they’re looking for when they are ready to buy, and when they search, it’s for the specific item, not the general category.

That is why it makes sense to go for more affordable and less competitive very specific keywords and phases. It also makes sense, when going for a very competitive key word, to promote a key phrase that includes the coveted keyword. You can rank well for the phrase and compete for the coveted keyword at the same time.

Here’s specific tips on On page SEO. This may be familiar to you, but this material has never stopped working. The thing you have to be wary of, is spamming your keywords ridiculously. Your copy needs to read well to people first and foremost, if you do anything else you’re sabotaging your SEO. The search engines want great on topic sites, not constructs trying to look like great on topic sites with key word spamming – and the spiders have ways to determine which one your site is.

Now when you use key words and phrases, always make certain the paragraph reads well to a human being first and foremost. Write for a reader, not a Google spider.

With that in mind… Use your Key Word / Phrase:

  • In Meta keywords, it’s optional but a good habit. Keep keywords short.
  • In Meta Description. Keep the keyword(s) close to the left and in a full sentence.
  • In the Page Title, close to the left, probably not the first word.
  • In the top portion of the page in the first sentence of the first full bodied paragraph (plain text, no bold, no italic, no style).
  • In a H2-H4 heading.
  • In bold, second paragraph if reasonable and anywhere but the first usage on the page.
  • In subscript/superscript
  • In URL (directory name, file name or domain name). Don’t duplicate the keyword in the url.
  • In an image file name used on the page.
  • In the ALT tag of the previously mentioned image.
  • In the Title attribute of that image.
  • In link text to another website.
  • In an internal link’s text.
  • In title attributes of all links going in and out of site.
  • In the filename of attached CSS or Javascript pages.
  • In an inbound link onsite (preferably from homepage)
  • In an inbound link from offsite (if possible)
  • In a link to a site with pagerank 8 or better.

Other SEO things to consider include:

  • Use “last modified” headers if you can.
  • Validate the HTML! Google’s parser may miss an entire page because of a few simple errors, it has in the past anyhow.
  • An html template is all good, Google can parse it.
  • Keep pages as.html or.htm if possible, dynamic extensions are SEO risky (some shopping carts and other php programs have work arounds).
  • Keep the ratio of text to html code very high. Text should outweigh html significantly.
  • Double check your page in every browser and computer you can, Safari, IE, Opera, Galeon, Firefox…etc.
  • Use Raw HREFs for links. The simpler the link the better, javascript can screw up the SEO potential of a link.
  • Figure out that 1 referral a day to 10 pages is better than 10 referrals a day to one page – this is the real secret to getting traffic, a site worth paying attention to.
  • Don’t assume keywords in your Site’s navigation template is worth anything at all. Google is looking for full sentences and paragraphs. Key words laying around the page are almost worthless compared to the same key word used in a sentence.
